Sunday Afternoon @ MacRitchie Tree Top Walk
Weekends are usually spent at home. But with kids, you kind of want to keep screen time away from them. So in a bid to stay healthy, and bring my son to be at one with nature, we explored the one of the many trails of Singapore.
I heard about the MacRitchie Tree Top walk from quite a while back, and always thought that it was a cool concept, especially in Singapore where it’s usually urban jungle all around. A quick search for Google maps also said it was 30mins walk from the carpark:
Looks doable. Round trip would be an hour or so. .. … Right?
Bruh, no it did not take into account the actual tree top walk:
The red parts right here took another 30mins or so (WITH A LOT OF STEPS GOING UP AND DOWN). Including rest time, this is a total of ~2hrs walking on mountain trails.
We were seriously quite underprepared for this whole endeavour.
Unfortunately, we also found out that the actual tree top walk is a one way trail and you can’t backtrack halfway. What sealed our fate was my son seeing the suspension bridge. How can you say no to an excited kid when the goal was right in front of our eyes:
Ok but in all honesty, it was a pretty interesting trail that had decent sights. But man, these parts only lasted like 5 minutes of the entire hike.
Here’s what we saw for the rest of the 2 hours, endless jungle lol. Pretty much the same scenery throughout:
On the bright side, I guess I got to spend 2 hours of the Sunday afternoon chatting with my son while getting in our exercise. Honestly, I was quite impressed by his stamina, as I was pretty much dead by the last 30min.
To reward ourselves, we went for McDonalds after. Gotta say the Mandarin Orange flavour of soft serve is pretty good.
Would I do this again? Probably, but not in the near future. I’ll stick to family friendly trails for a while.
